Empowering Tibetan Heritage through Education
In 1967, a small Tibetan primary school with only one teacher and 20 students was established at Bohshi Tibetan Settlement, Dholanji. For the unversed, Dholanji is located in the Sirmaur District of Himachal Pradesh and the nearest town is Solan which is 15 km away. In the beginning, the classes were conducted under a thatched roof with only a few basic amenities. However, in due course of time, three new classrooms were constructed for the school.
In the year 1975, the management of the school was handed over to the Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, presently known as the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The main aim was to provide quality education to the Tibetan children residing in the settlement.
The school was upgraded into a Middle School in 1989 and thereafter to Secondary Level in 2003. With the steady increase in enrolment and educational performance, the school was eventually upgraded into a Senior Secondary School in 2011. The first batch of class XII students graduated in the academic year 2011-12.
The present three-storied main school building was built by the Bonpo Foundation and handed over to the CTSA on a lease basis. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
On 5th May 2018, the administration of the school was successfully handed over to Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society as per the direction of MHRD and thus the school was renamed Sambhota Tibetan School Dholanji.
The school has an examination committee to conduct the examination fairly and smoothly. Promotions are made from classes I to VIII based on class assessment, 3 unit tests, half-yearly and annual examinations as per the CBSE rules. The school has performed quite well in the past board examinations.
Undoubtedly, the School has made tremendous progress due to the untiring efforts of the Principal, staff, students and with the kind co-operation of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Tibetan Settlement officer, Members of LAC &PTA at the local level. The School sincerely appreciates the guidance and full support provided by STSS and DoE.
Since the takeover of the school by the Sambhota Society in 2018, the school has seen a lot of improvement in the infrastructure and other amenities for the students.
